Corporate responsibility is a priority for Attica Bank.

Attica Bank recognises its responsibility towards society, especially towards the most vulnerable and promising parts of society, such as children, education and the provision of equal and fair opportunities in education, while promoting and supporting volunteering, culture and environmental protection.

Attica Bank consistently demonstrates sensitivity and active participation in Corporate Social Responsibility issues and aims to enrich its actions to increase the number of beneficiaries over time.

2023 was a year in which sports and culture were particularly strengthened, while vulnerable social groups were supported through support for institutions, actions and voluntary activities. At the same time, actions for education, entrepreneurship and the environment were promoted, integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles into the bank’s activities.

Education

In the Education sector, Attica Bank partnered with one of the largest information websites, Infokids.gr, which is addressed to parents, teachers and professionals dealing with issues related to children and families, to equip libraries in public schools in Greece with books, computers, reading room furniture, etc. For 2023, beginning this cooperation, three libraries in schools of the Municipality of Keratsini have been equipped: the Special Primary School and the 13th and 21st Primary Schools.

In 2023, the bank provided free PCs and electronic equipment to public schools throughout Greece, thus contributing to their modernization, improving and upgrading students’ education. In the past year, PCs, peripherals and printers were provided to 5 public schools as well as the school of the Korydallos Prison.

Also, among other things, it provided school supplies through vouchers to students of the schools of Palamas Karditsa in the context of broader initiatives to support the affected people in Thessaly after the disastrous floods. Moreover, the bank provided fifteen (15) scholarships to students in the  Hellenic Open University undergraduate programmes, thus financially supporting them in completing their studies.

Social contribution

Attica Bank incorporates social responsibility in its strategy, offering sponsorships and donations in multiple sectors related to people and society.

In 2023, Attica Bank strengthened its partnership with Make-A-Wish Greece as a Major Donor, assisting the work of the organization that grants wishes that have the power to transform the lives of children with severe illnesses and are an integral part of the journey to cure them. Since its inception in 1996, Make-A-Wish Greece has granted more than 3,000 wishes. With 400 volunteers nationwide, Make-A-Wish Greece grants an average of one wish every 38 hours.

In addition, for the third consecutive year, the bank supports the work of the non-profit NGO “Emfasis” by participating in the Christmas campaign “Merry Streetmas”. Since 2013, Emfasis Foundation has been working tirelessly to restore the dignity of people experiencing multiple forms of stigma.

Finally, in 2023, donations supported the Kapandriti Polyendri Volunteer Group for the purchase of firefighting equipment, the Charitable Non-Profit Association of Parents and Guardians of Disabled People of Imathia “THE CHILDREN OF ANOIXIS” for the completion of the construction of a building to cover daycare, care and employment of disabled people, etc.

Sports and culture

In the field of Sports, Attica Bank sponsored the men’s basketball team of the Gymnastics Association of Maroussi, participating in the Greek men’s basketball championship in the A1 National League (Basket League) for the 2023-2024 sports season. In the 2022-23 season, the men’s basketball team was crowned Champion of the Elite League – Henry Dunant (former A2) and secured its return, after 11 years of absence, to the Basket League, the country’s top league (A1) and a place among the biggest brands in Greek sports. With its sponsorship, Attica Bank supported the men’s basketball team’s progress to the country’s highest division (A1) on the one hand, and on the other hand, supported the efforts of a historic club to bring young people closer to sport, while improving the coaching experience of the athletes.

Attica Bank’s contribution in 2023 was also noteworthy in the field of culture. To promote our national heritage, Attica Bank participated as a sponsor in the concert of the internationally renowned tenor Plácido Domingo, which took place in July 2023 at the Toplou Monastery in Sitia, Crete. The concert of the last legend of opera, Plácido Domingo, apart from being a historic moment for Toplou Monastery, became a landmark for the region of Sitia and Crete in general, as it was the top cultural event of the summer for Crete and nationwide.

In addition, throughout the year, Attica Bank sponsored actions that fostered entrepreneurship, such as the 5th Business Awards “THALES MILLISIOUS”, the 2nd International Forum for Women Entrepreneurship, etc.

In the past year, Attica Bank has sponsored conferences on issues related to its activities that are directly linked to its strategic objectives for sustainability.

Volunteerism

An essential part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility actions is based on the volunteering of its employees, aiming through participation and solidarity to support socially vulnerable groups, as well as our fellow human beings who have emergency needs, showing particular sensitivity towards children. With the voluntary participation of its employees, in recent years, the necessary school supplies have been offered to students at the beginning of each school year. In 2023, Attica Bank and its employees collected and donated school supplies to the SOS Children’s Villages.

With great sensitivity and active reflexes, the bank’s employees mobilized immediately after the floods in Thessaly, collecting essentials, school supplies, toys, etc. These were distributed in cooperation with the National Volunteer Coordination Centre “HelpHellas” in the framework of the “Help Thessaly” initiative. In addition, the bank sent more than 2,600 water packages (6 x 1.5l) to cover the urgent needs of the affected people in the region. The bank also donated additional funds to HelpHellas to cover its needs as part of its efforts to assist the people of Thessaly.

Finally, with the voluntary participation of Attica Bank’s people, essentials were collected and delivered to the Hellenic Red Cross as humanitarian aid to the victims of the deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
